Charles Barkely is correct when he says parents should be role models in children’s lives but that is not going to stop a child to look up to a particular athlete as well. I believe role models come from the type of character, values and beliefs they portray, which is why parents should be the main role models in their own children’s lives. But I also believe there are athletes out there who present the same type of character off the field. What about Tim Tebow or Derek Jeter? Maybe children don’t know them personally but because athletes play a huge role in our society, what these athletes do impact the lives of little children. Personally I wouldn’t mind my child looking up to an athlete who is not just a successful athlete but a quality person.

How about the kids that dont have a good parent around. Or for that fact dont have a person around that has any good kind of character. would you still say that they should look up to there parents? I think it is different for kids who dont have people around that they can look to in a good way. Thats why i feel like all athletes should realize that they could be a role model for some kid out there.
ReplyDeleteThats a really good point nick. As a professional athlete, you never know who out in the viewing audience is looking up to you. The fact is though, somebody is, and you might be changing that kids life and you would never know it. Thats why I see it as the athletes duty to act appropriate, cuz whether its right or not, as long as there are professional televised sports, those athletes are going to be some little kids heroes.
