This is kind of a two way street i think. Children always seem to have two different role models. One being there parents who show them the way, and maybe an athlete or a superhero. Superhero are not negative because usually they are made to be positive. Athletes are not always positive. They can be posiive if they are doing the right things. When children have athletes as role models we want everything right but as soon as the athlete has something wrong with them society does not accept it.

  1. In some way I agree with this but I do not agree with the fact that it is always a superhero or an athlete. I believe that is a bias statement which is your own opinion, true. I believe that if someone has a role model and this role model does a deviant act than yes the media will obviously have an impact on the end result but I think that if a positive and influential person is chosen this will not be a problem. None the less, children stick with their role models even when they do deviant acts. It is a form of, "Yea I know what he/she did was wrong, but I still look up to him/her."

  2. Emily, I think you bring up an important point. Is it necessary to be able to differentiate between an athletes athletic performance and them as a person? And on the other hand if we are doing this, then does it matter if athletes are role models or not?
