I do agree that journalists play a role in athletes lives. I think that now in our sports world there are a lot of analysts though that are former athletes, coaches, etc and they are very knowledgeable on the sport they analyze. For example Jon Gruden, former Buccaneers coach, has now moved to MNF (Monday Night Footcball) and he's been getting great reviews with the intrigue he brings to the telecast Also for the most part journalists in my opinion are going to try to represent the facts as unbiased as possible.

  1. I think most of the former players and coaches do a very good job analyzing sports becuase they have been there. Besides John Gruden, there is Herm Edwards, Tony Dungy, and Troy Aikman. I think having been in these situations, these former players and coaches present a point of view that the fan has not been able to hear before. For example, last Monday night Jake Delhomme threw an interception on a slant pass to Steve Smith and one of the announcers jumped all over him for throwing the pick. John Gruden however noticed that the reciever had messed up his route and went behind the defender causing Delhomme to throw the pick. After seeing the replay you could see what he was talking about and later in the week Steve Smith took full blame for the interception. Thats the kind of knowledge that these new breed of analyst bring to the game.

  2. I agree that former players and coaches bring a better insight into most games. The have more knowledge in the game and can pick up things that others can't see like that interception. I also think though that they can be more critical of the athletes since they are playing the sport that they used to. Former players in the past have called out current players for their off the field antics and for not playing the game like they think it should.

  3. I agree that there has been a shift of a lot more knowledgble sports casters such as ritred head coaches etc. it is funny sometimes to listen to the younger inexperienced host talk and then turn it over to the retired coach and get a compltetly different opion or side to the story. I think the older coaches do a much better job. Is that maybe why they don't last very long in the news world? Too much integrety? They refuse to buy into the medias hipla and hype?
