What if a man got found out to be a woman in a mens competition? How would we treat that? Surely we wouldnt say that she was trying to cheat to win. Why would these circumstances allow for a different reaction than the one that is going on right now? This really shows our total outlook on mens and womens sports and how they compare to each other.

James is right this would probably be s total different situation if they found out a girl was in a males sport. Thats why i dont think we should judge so hard. But we also have to be sensitive to the fact of what she is getting away with while competing against other women, and having male organs.
ReplyDeleteIt truly is an interesting observation. I think if a women was caught in men's sports it would be handled similarly. I think people would put this in the media as much as, if not more than the current situation. As far as professional competition, I think that a woman caught in a men's sport should be in women's competition only. I think thos avoid a lot of controversy that would arise from the situation.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the comment that if she wouldn't have done a good job then she wouldn't have been tested. The only reason she was even questioned was because she was a good athlete. I think that if they want to be able to test an athlete on their sex than it needs to be something that is done before to the competition and not only when someone stands out from the rest. Although there is no such thing as fem tests anymore today, there still needs to be a better way to find out rather than questioning an athlete without any sort of proof.
ReplyDeleteI think you make a very good point. A man found out to be a women would be more likely to be praised for beating "the boys" rather than punished for competing in the wrong category. I think this goes along way in showing how truly alive the sterotypes and negative beleifs of women are still eing felt in todays athletics. Shoot today i got my butt whooped by two girls in badmitton, they abviously can compete with men.
