Cowboy Cheerleaders

I found this article very amusing. First of all, when exactly do the Cowboy Cheerleaders get interviewed? And if a cheerleader was interviewed what would the questions actually be: How much do you love being a Cowboy Cheerleader? I think even a ditsy blond can answer that one. The article was also amusing when Reilly asked the questions to the football players. One person said that they don't need to know these things as long as they win. The media does not care what athletes think about world and national issues. Sport media as consumed are minds, entertainment and interest.

  1. The idea behind the article is that the cheerleaders are actually interviewed when being selected for the team. I wactched the "cowboy cheerleaders show" and it is boot camp x 10. They are not only scrutinized for their bodies but their minds as well. If they do not know information than they will be kicked off the selection line up. An underlying factor is that a high priority is given to these cheerleaders because they do not want to reputation that they are "dumb" or "unintelligent". I think that the media coverage on this issue is great considering the fact that the cheerleaders may know more about the football team than do the players themselves.

  2. Emily, you have made some great points about the cheerleading article. The article does outline the intelligence of the women who are the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders, which counters traditional stereotypes about cheerleaders. However, I wonder if this article suggest anything about the intelligence of football players? Additionally, do we think the average Texas citizen knows the answers to some of the questions Reiley asks? Does that matter in this whole process?

  3. The questions in the article that they asked the football players were some of the questions that the cheerleaders get quizzed on when they're trying out for the team. The article was meant to go against the stereotype that all cheerleaders are "ditsy blondes" as Jake referred to them as. The article turns the stereotype around and makes the football players out to be the "ditsy, dumb blondes". Unfortunately, I think if you asked some of the average Texans these questions they probably wouldn't know them either- which was inferred by the author when he commented about how the governor wasn't given the test either.
