Obviously this is a very controversial situation, and it seems most people think it is wrong that they tested her just because of her looks. I wonder though if she had not won the race if they would have even thought about testing her. Was this really a test to see if she was a women or not or just a test done because she won and today in sports when an athlete wins it is often assumed that they cheated somehow?

Ryan this is a good point. It seems like there could be a number of possibilities. Also I am glad your brought up the idea that we today we often assume athletes cheat, this seems especially the case in sports where cheating has been profound (such as track and field). Do we think that she participated in track and field that might have also contributed to the controversy?
ReplyDeleteI think it did make a difference that is was in the sport of track and field. I think perhaps if it was an olympic sport such as ping pong or diving perhaps it would never had even been thought off. I think it is a really shame today, but almost necassary that we quickly assume that someone cheated when they win.
