I think that everyone can agree that society views sports way more important than politics. This is due to a few reasons. First of all, sports affect people's daily lives. Hundreds of thousands of people find that it is critical for Oregon or OSU to win so that their team can make it to the Rose Bowl. However, nobody really knows what bills were being passed in Congress today. This is because many of these bills truly dont effect us day to day. Sports are also a lot more entertaining than politics. Athletes perform tasks and feats that are elite that most cannot do. If Obama dunks on Sarah Palin, im sure that many people would watch that aswell. Finally, politics are not in the media the way that sport is. If the news had highlights of votes on bills, I think people would watch that too, but I dont think thats realistic.

  1. I agree with Marcus when he says that people view sports as if it is affecting there everyday lives, and it also gives them something to cheer about because you dont see people sitting around there T.V. cheering for a bill to be passed, maybe the only time people are rooting for politics is during the presidential elections. Politics do effect our daily lives, but it isnt as apparent to us and one doesnt see all the effects that are being made.

  2. I'm not sure if I agree on the part about politics not being in the media each day. How often do you go the front page of the paper and find a sports article? No, the sports section is tucked inside everything else in most cases, including the front page, which almost 100% of the time has at least one story about something in regards to politics. Also, there is maybe one or two major networks that are devoted completely to sports, obviously with ESPN coming to mind. There are a whole slew of news stations out there that do nothing but cover politics.
